Moore Family Farm
The Moores raise pastured, free-range poultry and are the holiday turkey producers for the Penninsula Hotel in Chicago. Free-range turkey is available seasonally in breast, thigh, wing, and other cuts, along with whole and cutup free range chickens at the Urbana Farmers' Market from May through November, as well as at the farm. Sonrise Farms
The Hesterbergs raise antibiotic-free, cage-free chickens and turkeys north and east of Urbana.They offer 4-5 lb chickens, 3 lb fryers, 3-4 lb stewing hens, and 18-22 lb turkeys. Order by end of March for mid-June chickens, fryers, and hens, and, by end of May for fall chickens. Turkeys are available for pickup in the days immediately prior to Thanksgiving. To get to the farm from Urbana, take I-74 to the Ogden/Royal exit. At the top of the exit ramp, turn left. Go north approximately 12 miles. At 2900N, turn right. Go 1 3/4 miles more, the farm will be on your right. If you miss the current year's deadline for ordering, request to be put on the farms mailing list for the next spring's newsletter which includes an order form. Also, though most of the Hesterbergs' birds are spoken for in advance, there are usually a few extras, says Diane. NOTE: 2007 TURKEYS SOLD OUT.
